Lusevera combines impressive caves, a living cultural history and varied trails to create a destination that is particularly easy to explore through specific discoveries. Anyone looking for a holiday apartment can tailor their stay to their own interests: the programme includes experiences in nature, historic sites and insights into the region’s way of life.

Caves and Trails through the Landscape

An exceptional destination is the Grotte di Villanova cave complex. It comprises four large caves with a total length of more than 20 km. The complex includes the Grotta Nuova, which was discovered by local residents in 1925. Its formation at the contact point between two different types of rock led to different forms of karstification and thus to various types of cave chambers. For travellers who find geological features fascinating, this area offers a distinct focus alongside the cultural sights.

There are also various ways to get to know Lusevera above ground. The Anello Pradielis - Micottis circular trail runs through Pradielis, Lusevera and Micottis, combining experiences in nature with historical and cultural sights. The Valle Musi nature trail follows an old path along the Mea stream through small woods, flowering meadows, stream beds and broom-covered areas. In the past, this path connected huts and pastures. From Tarcento, Pian dei Ciclamini can be reached via the SS646 “di Uccea” towards Alta Val Torre, Lusevera and Slovenia, after approximately 17 km.

Those travelling with a pushchair or wheelchair will find the Pian dei Ciclamini trail an explicitly suitable option. Information boards include tactile sections as well as explanations in Braille. The Parco delle Prealpi Giulie was founded in 1996 and offers activities for hikers and nature lovers. This allows you to choose between a themed educational trail, a circular route with a cultural focus and further activities in nature when planning your stay, without limiting it to just one type of trip.

Museum, Church and Regional Traditions

The Museo Etnografico di Lusevera preserves evidence of material culture. It was founded in 1973 and reopened to the public in 1981 after the 1976 earthquake. The museum is located in the former village dairy and displays objects related to household work, livestock farming, crafts, cheese-making and religion. This means that the area can be explored not only through its landscapes, but also through former areas of work and everyday life.

The Chiesa di San Giorgio houses a valuable Nacchini organ dating from 1743 and has two antique capitals from the 13th century. The architect Gianni Avon oversaw it in every detail; at the same time, it marks the endpoint of the large staircase associated with the village.

In Micottis, the Podinkona fountain with its characteristic stone washhouse and a recently restored votive shrine are among the notable features of the village landscape. The shrine is described as unique in the Triveneto region. The Pust Carnival is also part of the area’s cultural identity: traditionally, humorous plays in the Torre Slovenian dialect are performed on the village square on Carnival Saturday.
