Coriano combines an impressive motorsport history with historic sites, scenic trails and regional specialties. Those looking to make their trip varied will find different points of interest here: you can learn about the life of Marco Simoncelli, visit churches and historic buildings, plan a hike through the countryside or discover local specialties at the Fiera dell’Oliva in November.

Motorsport and History in Coriano

A special attraction is La Storia del Sic, a gallery and museum about the racing achievements and life of motorcyclist Marco Simoncelli beyond the racetrack. The exhibition comprises three themed rooms and displays more than 15 helmets and 12 racing suits. This provides specific insights into his sporting career and other facets of his biography.

The Castello Malatestiano di Coriano also reflects the town’s past. As early as the 11th to 12th century, it was one of the important fortifications in the Rimini area. A new chapter in the town’s history became visible at the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta on 13 September 1953: the church was consecrated on that day. Inside is a wooden crucifix from the 13th century. Every three years, a festival is held there on the third Sunday in September.

The Museo Elisabettiano is located next to the church and is dedicated to Blessed Elisabetta Renzi, the founder of the Maestre Pie dell’Addolorata order. Telephone reservations are recommended for visits. The CORTE Coriano Teatro adds to the cultural experience with a 19th-century building that survived the war and has retained its historic exterior. The English Military Cemetery in Coriano contains 1,939 graves of soldiers of various nationalities and provides another historical focal point.

Trails through the Countryside and Vineyards

Various routes are available for active days. The PERCORSO ESCURSIONISTICO CAI031 is 10.5 km long, has an elevation gain of 362 metres and is classified by the CAI as a T-level hiking trail. The route begins at Parco del Marano. There is a car park, places to rest and a refreshment kiosk there. Along the way, the trail offers sweeping views over the Marano Valley and towards the hinterland between the castles of Montescudo, Gemmano, Montefiore and Saludecio.

The Circuito delle cantine – Passano offers a different perspective. This scenic circular route leads through the countryside around Coriano and past several wineries. Podere Bianchi, Tenuta Santini and the Azienda Agricola biologica Valle delle Lepri are located nearby; these wine producers make regional specialties of the highest quality. If you would like to combine exercise with culinary discoveries, you can incorporate this route into your day accordingly.

The Parco Fluviale del Marano extends along the basin of the Marano River through the section belonging to the municipality of Coriano. In addition, the permanent Tour dei Campioni connects Tavullia, Morciano, Montescudo/Monte Colombo, Coriano, Misano Adriatico and Gradara. Depending on your interests, you can therefore focus your day more on walks, cycling or cultural destinations.

Special Moments and Regional Traditions

An unusual installation is La Fiamma del Sic. It is shaped like a kind of cannon and shoots a 3-metre-long flame every Sunday evening at dusk for exactly 58 seconds. In November, the Fiera dell’Oliva offers local specialties and adds a seasonal insight into regional traditions to the cultural experience.

When choosing your holiday apartment, you can therefore consider whether you would mainly like to visit Coriano for its museums and historic sites, for the trails along the Marano and through the wine country, or for a combination of culture, activity and regional cuisine. For more travel ideas, you can also explore Cattolica, Pennabilli, Torriana, Misano Adriatico, Bellaria-Igea Marina, Corpolò, Rimini-Torre Pedrera and Mondaino.
