Santa Maria Nuova showcases culture in several forms: street art on Via Pablo Neruda, a monument to Aldo Spallicci, traditions surrounding the Madonna della Neve, and historic architecture. Palazzo Cavalli and the small chapel of Villa Cavalli bring their own architectural features. From the mural to the chapel’s furnishings, the subjects are varied and specific. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider which of these facets would make your stay especially interesting.

Street Art and a Monument

A street-art mural by Mohamed L’Ghacham is located on Via Pablo Neruda, near the intersection with Via Santa Croce. The mural was documented in 2023; its current condition may vary. It is part of the public art trail “Scuola dell'immaginazione”. This places it both on a specific stretch of road and within a named art project.

The Monumento ad Aldo Spallicci offers a different perspective. The artist Sandro Pagliuchi created the monument; it was installed and inaugurated in the school grounds of Santa Maria Nuova Spallicci in 2013. The mural highlights street art and its place in the art trail, while the monument commemorates a named person and marks the year of its inauguration. Together, the two examples offer different ways to experience art in Santa Maria Nuova.

Traditions and Architecture

Around the time Santa Maria Nuova became a parish, circa 1580, the Madonna della Neve was likely venerated as the patron saint of the local community. Historical accounts also record horse races in Santa Maria Nuova held in connection with the Feast of the Madonna della Neve. Together, these references point to the town’s religious history and festival traditions; the possible veneration as a patron saint remains a historical interpretation.

Palazzo Cavalli is a historic palace on Via Cavalli and is privately owned. The small chapel of Villa Cavalli is adorned with stucco decorations depicting the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, watched by Saints Peter and Paul. The scene combines a Marian motif with the two saints as observers. The architectural themes also differ: the Palazzo is notable as a historic palace, while the chapel stands out for its religious imagery.

Getting Around and Choosing a Destination

A cycling and walking route connects Via Cavalli with the Falcone-Borsellino car park in the PAC 4 area of Santa Maria Nuova Spallicci in Bertinoro. It officially opened in January 2025. If you are planning a specific outing, check current access before setting out.

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider Santa Maria Nuova as a destination if you want art and history to be among the main focuses of your trip. Street art and the art trail offer a different focus from the monument, the Madonna tradition and religious imagery. Consider which of these subjects interests you most on holiday, and choose your destination accordingly.
