Trentinara combines impressive trails, a historic town center, and festivals with a strong local character. If you are planning a trip where nature experiences and culture have equal importance, you will find a wide range of ways to organize your days here. The Via dell’Amore leads from the main square to a panoramic terrace. Along the route, you can see hand-painted majolica tiles by Sergio Vecchio depicting verses from love poems.

Historic Trails and Distinctive Townscapes

The Borgo Antico preserves two historic entrance gates: Porta Soprana and Porta Sottana. Cobblestone streets and portals dating from the 18th and 19th centuries recall the local master stonemasons. Several churches are also among the town’s notable destinations for a tour through its history. The Chiesa di San Nicola is an 11th-century Romanesque church. Today, it serves as an art gallery and is also used for civil wedding ceremonies. The Chiesa del Rosario dates from the 17th to the 18th century, while the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta dates from the 17th century.

This allows you to shape your stay in Trentinara in different ways: you can explore the historic town center, admire sacred buildings, or focus on the artistic details of the Via dell’Amore. A holiday apartment or holiday home in the town provides a suitable base if you would like to divide your vacation days between sightseeing in the town and excursions into the surrounding landscape.

Hiking Trails on Monte Vesole and along the Solofrone

For active days, the 1,210-meter-high Monte Vesole is a good choice. One route to the summit passes through forests of alder, maple, and beech trees. The Sentiero Tremonti offers a different focus: it runs through rocky terrain and a natural canyon. Along the Solofrone River, the path passes a mill, stone bridges, dry-stone walls, and rocky outcrops; a waterfall more than 20 meters high is also located along the route.

The Sentiero degli Sposi also offers its own perspective on the landscape. It leads from the Piazzetta through juniper and oak forests to a 12th-century Benedictine monastery in the municipality of Giungano. The trails described differ considerably from one another. Therefore, when choosing your accommodation, consider whether you primarily want to explore the town center, plan a summit trail, or experience a challenging route through a rocky landscape.

Festivals, Bread, and Living Traditions

Trentinara also displays its local character through its festivals. The Festa del Pane e della Civiltà Contadina takes place in summer along the streets of the historic center and has a documented history that now spans 18 years. Bread and other typical products are sampled there, freshly prepared in old wood-fired ovens made of local stone. The Festa Patronale di Santa Irene is celebrated every year on October 16 and includes a procession through the town. On August 23, a traditional candlelit procession is part of the Festa della Madonna del Loreto. The Carnevale di Trentinara revives traditional rites connected with the cycle of nature.

When traveling by car, Trentinara can be reached via the SS18 Tirrena Inferiore. Paestum is named as the nearest train station; there are train connections there from Naples and Salerno. In the town itself, it is also worth visiting the plateau known as “Le due nevere,” where there is an equipped area featuring two examples of industrial archaeology.
