The Museo delle Ceramiche di Calabria was founded in 2011 through a partnership between the Municipality of Seminara and the Centro Studi Esperide. In Seminara, the ceramic masters known as “maestri pignatari” continue to shape clay according to an old tradition, creating masks, bottles, anthropomorphic vessels, amphorae, household objects and vases. The ceramic masters known as “pignatàri” introduce visitors to colourful ceramic products in their craft workshops; the old workshops contain tools that were formerly used to make them.

The Basilica Santuario della Madonna dei Poveri preserves a wooden statue of the Madonna dei Poveri from the 12th century. It also contains marble statues of Saints Peter and Paul from the 16th century, from the Gagini school. The basilica comprises two exhibition areas: the Tesoro della Basilica and the Sala delle Reliquie.

The Chiesetta di Sant'Antonio dei Pignatari is a rural church that was rebuilt towards the end of the 18th century. Its façade features a stone high relief of God the Father blessing, dating from the 15th century, as well as vases made of Seminara ceramics. Inside stands a 16th-century marble statue attributed to Giovan Battista Mazzolo, known as the Madonna dei Miracoli.

The imperial monastery of Sant’Elia di Enna e di San Filarete L’Ortolano in Seminara was founded around 884. At the Monastero Bizantino dei Santi Elia e Filarete, the monks celebrate services according to the Orthodox rite. The Chiesa di San Marco preserves a marble statue of the Madonna degli Angeli attributed to Antonello Gagini. Seminara is home to four bas-reliefs probably dating from between 1550 and 1560. The remains of Castello Mezzatesta are considered to be an ancient palace from the 17th century.

The Festa della Madonna dei Poveri takes place every year on 14 August and attracts worshippers to Seminara. Seminara has been a pilgrimage destination for the Madonna dei Poveri for almost a millennium. During La danza dei Giganti, held from 10 August to 15 August, two approximately three-metre-high papier-mâché figures are carried through the streets of Seminara by men and moved to the sound of drums.

The Sagra dell'olio also focuses on local flavours: tastings feature Zeppole, Peperonata, Pasta struncatura and toasted bread; a key ingredient is the olive oil produced in Seminara.

You can reach Seminara by car via the A3 Salerno–Reggio Calabria motorway. At Palmi, take the exit and continue along the Palmi–Seminara provincial road. For travel by train, a train terminating in or stopping at Palmi is recommended; buses and shuttle services can be used from the station.
