Punta Pizzo, by contrast, has a predominantly rocky coast with small sandy stretches; behind it lie dense pine forest and Mediterranean scrub.

Coastal paths, tower and boat excursion

Near Punta Pizzo stands the 16th-century Torre del Pizzo, formerly known as “di cutreri”. Its structure is frustum-shaped at the base and cylindrical in the upper section; an external staircase leads to an entrance on the first floor.

The Isola di Sant’Andrea also broadens the view of the coast. It is a protected area and a refuge for seabirds; a lighthouse stands on it and is one of the landmarks of the Gallipoli landscape. As part of a coastal excursion, the island can be reached or viewed from the sea. Landing is not permitted, and a distance of more than 100 metres from the shore must be maintained.
