The Church of San Pio da Pietrelcina was initiated by the Capuchin Friars Minor and numerous devotees of Padre Pio in order to suitably house the saint's relics. The monumental Via Crucis runs along the entire southern slope of Monte Castellana. Its sculptures were created by Francesco Messina between 1968 and 1971. Along the path on Monte Castellana, numerous rare orchids of the Gargano can be encountered in spring.
