It belongs to the Natura 2000 network and is designated as the special protection area IT9110007 within Gargano National Park. Lago Salso is a wetland of approximately 540 hectares between the Manfredonia plain and the Ofanto River. It is part of Gargano National Park.

Thousands of children from nursery schools, primary schools and secondary schools take part in the Sfilata delle Meraviglie.
