San Menaio combines coast, pine forest and cultural history to create a destination with several different faces. When choosing a holiday apartment in San Menaio, it is therefore worth considering the different focuses of a vacation: relaxing days by the sea, nature among Aleppo pines and holm oaks, as well as archaeological and historical sites. Vico San Menaio railway station also provides practical orientation on site.

Beach days between open sections and beach resorts

The long, almost straight beach of San Menaio features numerous beach resorts interspersed with open sections of beach. The gently sloping seabed of San Menaio beach makes it suitable for families with children. At the final section of San Menaio beach, where it transitions into Spiaggia dei Cento Scalini, also known as delle Tufare, inflatable boats and canoes can be rented.

From the coast to the Marzini Pine Forest

Near Macchia di Mare, San Menaio beach becomes a pebble beach and then transitions into a high cliff coast. This change characterizes the landscape just as much as the Marzini Pine Forest. It is considered one of the few Italian pine forests with genetic purity. The Marzini Pine Forest has a high proportion of Aleppo pines; holm oaks are also found there.

Archaeological settlement and historical traces

The cultural heritage of San Menaio includes the archaeological area of Macchia di Mare. The archaeological settlement of Macchia di Mare is a Neolithic hut settlement dating from between the 4th and 3rd millennia BC. This means that a specific site here reaches back to a very distant era. The name Torre dei Preposti also refers to the tower’s original customs function. Under the Italian landscape protection law of June 29, 1939, No. 1497, San Menaio is recognized as an area of considerable public interest.
