A holiday apartment in Acque Fredde brings railway and mountain history, trails to Pila and distinctive landscape features into focus. The former Acque Fredde intermediate station is located in Gressan. The railway line, orchards, a moraine and structures in the surrounding area and farther afield give the choice of location different points of emphasis.

Railway line and cable car at the starting point

The twelve-kilometre railway line began in Acque Fredde and connected Cogne with Aosta. It passed through the Drinc Tunnel; afterwards, it ran halfway up the slope with several short tunnels before reaching Cogne. The line opened in 1922. It also connected Cogne with the steelworks of Aosta. In Acque Fredde, in the municipality of Gressan, there was also the terminus of a cable car coming from Aosta.

Routes, viaduct and trails to Pila

The Acque Fredde Viaduct is located at kilometre 13+980 on Regional Road 18 to Pila. A route from Aosta to Pila leads through Gressan, Acque Fredde and Charvensod. The former S21 trail began in Acque Fredde, ran below the former mining railway and then crossed the regional road. A historic access trail to Pila led via Cerise, Acque Fredde and Pertzé. When planning your day, you can make the viaduct on Regional Road 18, the former S21 trail below the former mining railway or the historic access trail via Cerise and Pertzé a separate focus in each case.

Elevation, valley floor and distinctive formations

The higher-elevation areas of Gressan include the Pila ski resort at about 1,800 metres. In the valley floor, orchards and the Gargantua moraine are part of the municipality of Gressan. The mountains Pointe de la Pierre and Becca di Nona are located in the vicinity of Acque Fredde. The summit Punta Rossa and the natural arch Arco D'Augusto are also located in the surrounding area. Pila and the valley floor of Gressan mark two different landscape areas: the ski resort at about 1,800 metres above, and orchards and the Gargantua moraine below.

Castles, palace and cultural attractions

In the vicinity of Acque Fredde are Castello Reale di Sarre as a castle and Roncas Palace as a palace. The castles Castle Sarriod de La Tour and Chatel Argent are also located in the surrounding area.
