Fano Adriano combines an impressive mountain landscape with traces of a long local history. Among forests, rock formations, small churches and trails through nature, you will find a variety of reasons to plan your trip. Anyone looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home can choose their preferred focus: active days in the mountains, cultural and historical discoveries, or a trip that combines both.

Rocks, Forest and Characterful Landscapes

The Selva forest characterizes Fano Adriano with its diverse tree population. This creates a distinctive landscape, especially in autumn. In the surrounding area, trails lead through the vegetation to the Merletti rock formations. These include the natural Cammello arch and the Grotta delle fate rock cave. The Vene Rosse, distinctive rocky ridges with a characteristic coloration, are also located nearby.

The Grignetti are three basins carved into the rock that were used for wine production in ancient times. From the Grignetti, climbers can ascend the Pasto Nudo climbing wall on a rocky peak of the Vene Rosse. This level of difficulty is not recommended for beginners. This results in a clear decision for your trip planning: the rocky landscape can be viewed and explored on foot, while climbing presents a particular sporting challenge.

Trails Around Fano Adriano and Prato Selva

One specific route begins in Prato Selva in the municipality of Fano Adriano and passes by the Rocchetta stream, the Prati di Incodara, Colle delle Monache and the foot of the Crivellaro ravine. Another trail leads from Fano Adriano through an artificially planted coniferous forest to the Eremo dell'Annunziata on Colle San Marcello. These different routes allow you to choose your excursions according to your preferred landscape and interests, without making every day of your trip the same.

Prato Selva is a small winter sports resort at an altitude of 1,400 meters in the municipality of Fano Adriano. The town is located by the forests of Monte Corvo on the Teramo side of Gran Sasso. Hiking, snowshoeing and mountain biking are possible there. Prato Selva is also a stage of the Ippovia del Gran Sasso, a riding route more than 500 kilometers long that crosses large parts of the national park. If you are looking for accommodation in Fano Adriano, it is therefore worth considering in advance whether you would like to focus your stay more on mountain trails, winter sports or culture.

Churches, Museum and Local History

Fano Adriano also offers several distinct cultural and historical attractions. The Chiesa dei SS. Pietro e Paolo was built in 1335 on the remains of a Roman temple. The Chiesetta dell'Annunziata on Colle San Marcello dates in its present form to the 16th century. The Chiesa di Sant'Egidio Abate is medieval in origin and has been known since 1324.

The Chiesetta di San Rocco in the hamlet of Villa Moreni displays features dating from the 17th century. There are two steps at the entrance, making access more difficult for people with disabilities. You should also take the local conditions into account when planning a visit to the Chiesetta dell'Alpino: it stands on the summit of Colle Abetone at an altitude of 1,775 meters, in a dense beech forest in the Monte Corvo area. The access and the condition of the trail are not suitable for people with disabilities.

The Museo Etnografico delle Tradizioni Popolari is a permanent institution. It makes everyday objects and handicraft items from Cerqueto and other surrounding locations publicly accessible, thereby documenting life and activities in the past. More than 1,000 objects come from areas including agriculture, livestock farming, wood and wool processing, crafts and household equipment. A summer Sagra delle scrippelle was also part of the local tradition.

The Right Accommodation for Your Travel Idea

Fano Adriano is suitable as a base for a trip in which nature experiences and culture do not have to be considered separately. When searching for a holiday apartment, decide whether trails through forests and rocky landscapes, Prato Selva or historical sites should be the focus.
