Bundoran combines sandy beaches and Atlantic views with surfing, coastal walks and family attractions. Tullan Strand stretches for 2 km from the northern edge of town to the mouth of the Erne at Ballyshannon. Bundoran Beach looks out over Donegal Bay and the Atlantic; the beach is associated with An Taisce’s Blue Flag award for quality. You can choose between beach time, getting active on the water and exploring the town during your stay.

Explore the Coast on Foot

The Rougey Walk is a moderately challenging circular route with views of the Atlantic. It takes in Rougey and Bundoran’s lively Main Street. Take care on exposed sections in windy or wet weather. The route starts at the Tourist Office and passes the promenade, Waterworld and Bundoran’s Blue Flag beach. The Fairy Bridges can also be reached from the main beach via the Rougey Walk: the natural rock arch lies in the cliffs near Bundoran, and its blowholes date back to the 18th century.

Another option is the West End Cliff Walk. Starting at the Tourist Office, it follows a cliff path through the West End. If you’re looking for a walk with a historical focus, you can include the Bundoran Historical Walking Trail: a leisurely stroll through town gives locals and visitors insight into its history. The Bundoran Sculpture Trail is free to walk. These different options offer distinct experiences—from cliffs and Atlantic views to local history and sculptures.

Surfing and Water Activities

Surfing is central to the Bundoran experience. A surf school offers lessons year-round for adults and children aged 8 and up, welcomes all skill levels and provides all the equipment. It is registered with the Irish Surfing Association and operates from Bundoran and Rossnowlagh. Tullan Strand is popular with experienced surfers. A nearby surf school offers advanced lessons, which can be booked with boards, wetsuits and transport.

SUP tours also run from Bundoran from May to September, combining activity with coastal views.

Days Out with Children

WaterWorld Bundoran offers both extreme slides and child-friendly attractions. Slides and attractions for children at least 1.1 m tall include Tornado, Twister, Whizzer and Gravity. The Aqua-Blue slide is for children under 1.1 m; other options include a toddler pool, the Wave and Walrus slides, and the Umbrella slide. The stated height requirements can help you choose attractions for the children in your group.

The Bundoran Adventure Park is also located on the seafront. It offers rides, Adventure Golf, petrol go-karts and an arcade. The park is home to Pirates Cove Adventure Golf, a pirate-themed mini-golf course. Alongside beaches and coastal walks, there are several options for play and entertainment.

Golf and Local Highlights

Bundoran Golf Club was founded in 1894. Its links course is set on a rugged headland above Donegal Bay on the Wild Atlantic Way. Designed by Harry Vardon, the challenging course has 18 holes and a par of 70. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy a different way to experience the coastal landscape than by walking or taking part in water activities.

When looking for a holiday rental, you can use Bundoran Beach as a reference point: it is 250 m from Main Street. First decide which experiences matter most to you during your stay—such as the beach and coastal walks, surfing, family attractions or golf. Then choose your holiday destination based on which of these experiences is the deciding factor for you.

Other places of equal standing to consider: Pettigo, Glenties, Carndonagh, Ballyliffin, Killybegs, Bridge End, Portnoo and Fintragh.
