Droichead Nua: Art, River and Experiences
Accommodation in Droichead Nua
Along the River Liffey, through its arts offerings and on paths across open grasslands, Newbridge reveals itself from different sides. A museum with free admission, an interdisciplinary arts centre, a public park and sporting facilities each have their own focus. Nearby, a circular trail also leads through the Curragh Plains. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider whether to focus on culture, riverside scenery, outdoor activities or an event.
Art, Museum and Factory Tour
The Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge is an arts centre for County Kildare. Its interdisciplinary programme includes theatre, cinema, comedy, music, dance, workshops and visual art. If you would like to include a range of cultural interests in your trip, you will find several art forms under one roof here; specific events may vary depending on when you visit.
The Museum of Style Icons at Newbridge Silverware is free to visit. Newbridge Silverware also offers a factory tour lasting approximately 45 minutes. Bookings are available Monday to Thursday at 11:00 and 14:15, and Friday at 11:00.
Paths Along the River and in the Surrounding Area
The public Liffey Linear Park is located along the River Liffey in Newbridge. It covers 9.5 acres and has 1.5 km of paths. This makes it a separate option for spending time outdoors without having to plan a longer circular walk. Fishing is also possible on the River Liffey in Newbridge. You can therefore choose between riverside walks and fishing as different ways to enjoy the river.
If you are looking for a longer route through an open landscape, the Curragh Trail is located near Newbridge. The circular route is 15.1 km long and runs through the open grasslands of the Curragh Plains. It is clearly different from the 1.5 km paths in Liffey Linear Park: the trail is a longer loop through the Plains, while the park has its own paths directly alongside the River Liffey. Bear the stated distances in mind when planning your outings.
Sport and Special Events
Newbridge Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland golf course designed by Pat Suttle and opened in 1995. Visitors are welcome. The grounds are home to herons, moorhens, kingfishers and wild ducks, among other wildlife.
Gaelic Games take centre stage at Cedral St Conleth’s Park in the centre of Newbridge: the stadium is dedicated to these sports. It reopened in late October 2024 with a capacity of 15,000. Another event to consider is the Newbridge June Fest, which takes place annually around the June Bank Holiday weekend. It is a community festival. If you would like to combine your trip with sport or a festival, these are two different options; for the June Fest, the period around the holiday weekend is the stated annual timing.
Regional Food and Travel Interests
Domo’s Emporium at the Newbridge Silverware Visitor Centre serves high-quality food sourced locally and from Ireland. Its culinary focus complements the cultural and active experiences with an offering rooted in the region. If Droichead Nua suits your holiday plans, you can focus your search on holiday accommodation in the town.
