Discover Rossinver
Accommodation in Rossinver
Rossinver combines remarkable sites of cultural history with gardens, waterfalls and opportunities for active days. The Organic Centre is located in the village in County Leitrim; west of Rossinver are Rossinver Abbey and trails around Fowley’s Falls. When searching for a holiday rental, the main question is which of these interests will shape your trip: a visit to the Organic Centre, a walk by the river or a longer cycle ride.
Gardens and events at the Organic Centre
The Organic Centre is housed in an iconic, award-winning building with a grass roof, designed by Colin Bell. The grounds include demonstration gardens with seven polytunnels. If you are interested in gardening, you will find not only a distinctive building here, but also landscaped areas that bring the Centre’s themes to life.
The Organic Centre runs more than 50 weekend courses each year. There are also free seasonal events suitable for families. These include Potato Day and Apple Harvest Day, as well as events for Biodiversity Week and Heritage Week. These different formats may be useful when planning your trip if you would like to arrange your stay around a course topic or seasonal event. The specific dates are key, especially if a particular event is part of your trip.
Historic sites in and west of the village
Rossinver Abbey, also known as Gubalaun Abbey or St. Mogue’s Church, lies west of Rossinver. St. Mogue’s Abbey contains 9th-century gravestones. The old Rossinver Post Office is a protected structure and is listed on the NIAH register. These sites give Rossinver a historical side that differs from its gardens and nature experiences.
The Ballagh Centre is another notable building in the village: it is a restored former Church of Ireland building and has restored stained-glass windows. If you enjoy discovering different traces of local history on a trip, you can include these buildings alongside a visit to the Organic Centre. Conservation work at St. Mogue’s Church in Rossinver was monitored in late 2024 and early 2025.
Fowley’s Falls and trails along the Glenaniff River
A riverside trail approximately one mile long leads from Rossinver to Fowley’s Falls on the Glenaniff River. Along the way, the trail passes a series of waterfalls. The Fowley’s Falls Trail also runs along the Glenaniff River near Rossinver and includes a section with Fowley’s Falls. This linear walking trail is 2.8 km long, rated moderate and takes about an hour. It leads from the Forest Entrance Car Park to the falls.
The trail’s length and stated duration are useful details for planning your day. Derrynahimmirk Forest gives visitors access to Fowley’s Falls near Rossinver in County Leitrim. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore weigh up whether the waterfalls and walking trails should be the main focus, or whether you would rather give greater importance to Rossinver’s other cultural and garden attractions.
Cycling, fishing and getting your bearings in the region
The Fowley’s Falls Cycle Route follows the R281 to Rossinver and is 37 km long. This distance helps you plan a cycle ride as a separate activity without confusing it with the shorter walking trail. Anglers can find a section reserved exclusively for fly-fishing in the Rossinver Fishery’s permitted waters in Rossinver Bay. There is a fishery at Eden Quay, where boats and ghillies, or fishing guides, are available.
The road connections also help you get your bearings: the regional roads R281 and R282 meet in Rossinver. The R281 connects Glenfarne and Kinlough via the village. The R282 connects the N16 at Manorhamilton via Rossinver, continuing towards Garrison. The Grass Roof Café serves vegan and vegetarian food. This gives you a range of travel interests to consider when choosing a holiday rental: gardens and culture, a trip to the waterfalls, cycling or fishing.
