The Pauline Monastery of Szentlélek was completed next to an existing chapel before 1440; in 1441, the prior of Porva sought confirmation of the monastery's foundation.

In the wider surroundings of Porva, near Bakonybél and at the foot of Kőris-hegy, lies the Százhalom burial field with 226 burial mounds; similar barrows can also be found in several parts of the High Bakony.

During the Árpád era, Porva was a centre of a favoured royal hunting ground.

Porva's name was first recorded as “Purua” in a document from 1086; a letter from 1260 also records a chapel dedicated to Saint Emeric in the cemetery.

The church in Porva preserves the red-marble tombstone of Orsolya, the sister of István Zapolyai and widow of Pál Perneszi.
