The medieval church stands in the centre of Berhida on the main road.
The church of Berhida was built in the late Romanesque style in the late 13th or early 14th century, remodelled in Gothic form in the late 14th century, and has a tower entrance dated 1638.
The medieval church was considered an architecturally and art-historically significant building and was notable for its unusual stone roof construction.
In the second half of the 16th century, the church was converted into a fortified church and became part of the defensive system of Várpalota Castle. Substantial wall reinforcements from this adaptation have survived.
Historical records identify Berhida as a village of the Diocese of Veszprém until 1363; the settlement probably belonged to the diocese as early as the 12th century.
