Culture and History

The Church of St Clement in Bük is a Gothic church that was created in 1408 by remodelling a Romanesque church dating from the 13th century. It features Romanesque and Gothic details; its tower was built in the Baroque style in 1658. Inside are fragmentary murals, some of which are medieval, while another section is a Baroque work from the 16th century.

The Protestant church in Bük was consecrated during Advent in 1785 as a late Baroque church without a tower; its Neoclassical tower was built in 1826. The Szapáry Castle complex developed from a fortified manor house dating from the 16th century and was remodelled in the Early Baroque style in 1696 by Felsőbüki Nagy István. Szapáry Castle is privately owned and is not open to visitors; certain parts can, however, be seen from the outside.

The Koczán House is the last thatched, hipped-roof farmhouse with mud walls in the region. It currently houses a craft workshop, Easter egg-painting activities, and various programmes for children and families. Bük is also located on section M01/08b of the Mary’s Way, which leads to the Ecumenical Chapel in Bükfürdő.
