Szaknyér: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The entire administrative area of Szaknyér lies within Őrség National Park. Szaknyér is also part of the Natura 2000 network of European importance. History and Village Character

Szaknyér belongs to the historic Őrség region and was first mentioned in writing in 1428 under the name Zathmer. Some buildings still display traditional Pitvaros or Kódis-állásos features.

The Maria Theresa linden tree is considered one of Szaknyér’s attractions. It was planted to commemorate the coronation of Maria Theresa, has a trunk circumference of 3.6 metres, and can still be visited in the eastern part of Szaknyér. The bell tower is also considered one of the village’s attractions.

Next to the municipal office, approximately in the middle of Szaknyér, stand the old belfry and a fire engine.

Geographical Location

Szaknyér is a dead-end village and can be reached via connecting roads between the municipalities of Hegyhátszentjakab and Kisrákos.

Places and Wildlife Observation

At the entrance from the direction of Hegyhátszentjakab, there is a spring built by soldiers at the end of the Second World War. The Szaknyér spring is considered a place where thirsty hikers can take a break.

Wild animals can be observed from hunting stands in a meadow next to the cemetery of Szaknyér. The Őrségi Patakparti Alpaca Farm is located 4 kilometres away in Szaknyér; it may only be visited by guests of the guesthouse by prior appointment.

Culinary Experiences

Vadregényes in Szaknyér has a small gift shop and offers the opportunity to enjoy coffee. At Café Vadregényes, visitors can try coffee, hot chocolate, homemade syrup and fröccs, as well as coffee variations with chocolate and fruit profiles.
