Carved Grave Markers in the Reformed Cemetery

The Reformed cemetery is near the village centre. The size, shape and decoration of its carved grave markers indicate the age, gender and wealth of the deceased. The markers are therefore not all designed alike: their shapes and decorations each carry clues that can be distinguished by looking closely.

The headboards are made of oak or acacia wood, and occasionally Turkey oak. They are usually 80 to 150 centimetres long; some reach 200 to 300 centimetres. Kölcsey Ferenc Memorial Room: Life Story and Everyday Objects

The permanent exhibition in the Kölcsey Ferenc Memorial Room presents Kölcsey’s life, his years in Cseke, and the circumstances in which he composed the 1823 hymn a Magyar nép Zivataros századaiból. It thus brings together biographical milestones and the creation of the work.

On display are Kölcsey’s original furniture—a table, chairs and a chest of drawers—as well as his books and everyday objects. These include a razor, a sand shaker and an inkwell. The exhibition therefore encompasses both pieces of furniture and smaller objects from his daily life.

The memorial room is located in the Cultural Centre at 46 Kölcsey Ferenc Street. Visits are possible by prior arrangement. Confirm the specific visiting arrangements before you travel.

The Szatmár-Bereg Heritage Trail Through Several Villages

The signposted Szatmár-Bereg Heritage Trail follows marked hiking routes 32 and 33 through Szatmárcseke and other villages in the region. The nature reserve near Tiszadob covers oxbow lakes, floodplain forests and grassland across 1,000 hectares. Between 80 and 90 pairs of herons nest in Tölgyes Forest.
