Hikes with different route profiles

The hikes to Nagy-Kőszikla described by the municipality differ in length, elevation gain and stated duration. The route via Gál-hegy is 7 km long, climbs 600 metres and takes about 3 hours. Another route to Nagy-Kőszikla goes through the Csömöle Valley: it is 9 km long, climbs 650 metres and takes about 4 hours. The summit offers a panorama spanning about 180 degrees across the Danube Bend and the Pilis Mountains.

If you’re considering one of the shorter hikes described, you could also plan the route through the Csömöle Valley to the Szokolyai meadows. This hike is 7 km long, climbs 400 metres and takes about 3 hours. The figures make it possible to compare the routes directly, although the three hikes do not all have the same destination: two lead to Nagy-Kőszikla, while the third goes to the Szokolyai meadows. Danube riverbank and nature

The Danube riverbank near Kismaros is considered a largely untouched stretch of the Danube Bend. It provides a habitat for numerous waterbirds and amphibians. Canoeing is also possible there. The riverbank therefore offers different experiences from the hikes to the higher ground: you can choose between a walk and time on the water when planning your holiday days. Village history at the museum

The Kismarosi Sváb Muzeális Gyűjtemény presents a permanent exhibition on the village’s ethnographic traditions and history. Its timeline runs from the first Swabian settlers, who arrived in the first half of the 18th century, to the present day. Exhibits include historical objects, old documents and photographs, former tools used in agriculture and viticulture, and relics of religious life. The collection thus offers several ways to learn about village life: through work and winemaking, as well as personal records and religious traditions. Forest railway and getting there

The Királyréti Forest Railway station is a few minutes’ walk from Kismaros railway stop on the Budapest–Vác–Szob line. The forest railway journey from Kismaros to Királyrét takes 30 minutes. This gives you another way to add a train ride to your holiday in Kismaros. When planning your destinations, you can choose between hikes, the Danube riverbank, a museum visit and a ride to Királyrét, without combining these different experiences into a single route.
