Culture and History

The broader regional surroundings of Bernecebaráti include the Kismarosi Sváb Muzeális Gyűjtemény, Migazzi-kastély and Stará Huta.

In Bernecebaráti, on Templomhegy, there is a fortified earthwork site dating from the Árpád era; historically, it was discussed together with an earlier fortified hilltop settlement and a church fortification.

Templomhegy is a narrow, elongated ridge with steep sides. It is bordered by the Bernece stream to the east and the Kemence stream to the west.

The Templomhegy site is documented under the historical names Várhegy, Kálváriapart and Paphegy. There is also evidence of a former wall around the church and a possibly vanished monastery.

The site is described as easy to reach and rises prominently above its surroundings.
