Maconka is considered one of Hungary’s most popular fishing waters. At the Maconkai-víztározó, fishing with a tourist fishing licence is permitted only in lake sections II and III, unless the BSHE has issued a different authorisation. Cycling is permitted in the protected area of the Maconkai-víztározó; the service stations can be used free of charge.

Nature

The Gyürky-Solymossy Castle Park is a local nature reserve. A 13-hectare English landscape park surrounds Gyürky-Solymossy Castle. Csalános is a mountain in the vicinity of Bátonyterenye, as is Ágasvár. The surroundings of Bátonyterenye also include Hajnács-hegy as a mountain and Ágasvár as a peak.

Culture and History

Gyürky-Solymossy Castle is a late-Baroque building with onion domes. The Palóc Tájház next to the castle offers an insight into Palóc culture; it can be visited with restrictions.

The Barják Gyula Képeslapmúzeuma is a private museum in Bátonyterenye-Nagybátony-Falu, at Alkotmány út 24. Vadászkastély is a historical site in the wider region surrounding Bátonyterenye. The “Evangélikus templom” was built in 1907.

Hiking

Since 2018, the Bátonyterenye Forestry Office has offered accommodation on the “Erdei vándor” Mátra hiking trail.
