Culture and History
The present-day Roman Catholic church was built in 1765 after the older chapel had been demolished. It stands on Erzsébet tér and is oriented from east to west, as is characteristic of medieval church architecture. The painting on the main altar depicts Saint Martin and was painted by Antal Peski in 1862.
The Tájház is located in a residential building dating from the mid-19th century. During archaeological excavations on the outskirts of Jásztelek, a hunting hut with a diameter of 5.20 metres was discovered in a Mesolithic layer; it probably dates from around 7000 BC.
Nature and Landscape
Protected plants and rare bird species can be found in the protected area. It can be reached by leaving Jásztelek in a southerly direction and turning at the junction to Pusztamizse; a carved wooden sign marks the area.
Hegyes-halom is a hill in the immediate vicinity of Jásztelek. Lyukas-halom and Nagyhalom are hills in the vicinity of Jásztelek, while Pap-halom is a hill in the wider regional surroundings of Jásztelek.
The artificially created oxbow lake is approximately 3 kilometres long and covers around 9 hectares. Fishing is permitted in forms aimed at preserving the natural values.
Geographical Location
Jásztelek can be reached by car or bus via Road 32 between Jászberény and Alattyán. The Havas-Boldogasszony Chapel stands on the outskirts of Jásztelek among fields, trees and shrubs and is in very poor condition.
