Noszvaj: Art in Cave Dwellings and Trails through the Landscape
Accommodation in Noszvaj
Noszvaj brings together art in old cave dwellings, castle history and trails through forest and hilly countryside. In Pocem, the former cave dwellings now serve as a venue for artistic life; the Forrástúra leads into the forest north of the village, while Síkfőkút, with its ponds and landscape surrounded by forest and mountains, offers a different natural highlight. The rows of wine cellars, the Reformed Church and the Noszvaji Gazdaház are also reasons to look beyond a trip focused solely on the landscape. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether culture and local history or trails and nature should play a greater role in your stay.

Art and History in Different Forms
The old cave dwellings of Pocem are located on what was once Betlehem utca and now serve as a venue for artistic life. The entrance on Honvéd utca is accessible on foot year-round. Check the latest visitor information before your visit. De la Motte Castle welcomes visitors with an exhibition on the history of the castle. Built in the style of Louis XVI, it stands in a 25-hold park.
Copies of the original painted coffered panels can also be seen in Noszvaj’s Reformed Church. Sándor Gelsei made them in 2001. The Noszvaji Gazdaház offers a different perspective: its exterior and furnishings provide an insight into the living conditions and daily life of wealthy farming families in the late 19th century. While the church and panels focus on a specific collection of images, the Gazdaház draws attention to the living spaces and everyday life of a social group. Visual art and historical living conditions are thus clearly distinct themes to explore in Noszvaj’s cultural history.
Forest, Ponds and Trails
The Forrástúra leads into the forest north of Noszvaj. On this puzzle trail, the challenge is to find eight springs and solve a riddle at each one using the accompanying verse. The route is 7.5 km long, with a descent following an elevation gain of 350 m. Measurements may vary depending on the circuit chosen. The combination of springs, riddles and verses gives the Forrástúra a clearly defined theme. Its length and elevation gain make it easier to plan a dedicated place for it in your day.
Síkfőkút, Noszvaj’s recreation area, lies north of the village in the valley of the Kánya Stream. There are natural ponds there, as well as ponds created later by human hands, in a landscape surrounded by forest and mountains. The rows of wine cellars offer a different character for walks. They are located along Szomolyai út and Jókai út, as well as in Kőporosi, Imányi, Emődi, Kis-Imányi and Mátyás-téri, and make for pleasant walking routes.
Imány-tető adds a distinctive landmark in the centre of Noszvaj to this landscape. The hill is 309 metres high; wildflowers grow on its slopes, including several protected species. Imány-tető is also home to a Millennium monument and a national banner. Here, natural features on the hillside meet two named landmarks.
Which Holiday Apartment Suits Your Stay?
If you want your stay to centre on forests, scenery and trails, you can use the Forrástúra, Síkfőkút and Imány-tető as points of reference. For a cultural and historical focus, Pocem’s cave dwellings, the castle, the Reformed Church and the Gazdaház offer places to start. This lets you tailor your holiday-apartment search to the experiences that interest you most in Noszvaj. When choosing, it is worth comparing the specific location of your accommodation with the places that matter to you during your stay.
