Culture and History

Pirtó is a municipality in the Kiskunhalas District of Bács-Kiskun County and includes the localities of Csősztelekdűlő, Pirtóhegy and Zsombostódűlő.

Archaeological finds indicate that the area was settled during the Árpádian era. This means that Pirtó has a documented link to the early history of settlement, which is significant for visitors interested in cultural history.

Pirtó became an independent municipality in 1947 after previously belonging to Kiskunhalas. In 2007, József Szalai created a memorial stone to mark the municipality’s 60th anniversary.

Pirtó takes its name from the former nearby Lake Pir-tó, which had become overgrown with reeds and dried up by the middle of the 20th century.

Pirtó is located 48 kilometres southwest of Kecskemét and 10 kilometres northwest of Kiskunhalas. Neighbouring municipalities are Soltvadkert and Tázlár.
