Lemos (Laimós) combines sweeping views of the lake and the border with North Macedonia with trails through the countryside and churches with a long history. The three-aisled, timber-roofed Basilica of Agios Ioannis stands on a hill just outside the village. From there, the view stretches across the lake to the border. The Church of Agia Paraskevi is in the village itself. There are also hiking trails with different destinations: the lakeside forest and river delta on one hand, and a hill with panoramic views on the other.

Trails with different highlights

From Laimós, a 6–7 km trail leads to the lakeside forest and the delta of the Agios Germanos River. There are numerous opportunities for birdwatching along the way. This route therefore brings together several natural attractions: the forest by the lake, the delta and the chance to spot birds along the trail.

The Laimós–Lofos Agianni hiking trail starts in the village and crosses farmland and a small oak forest before reaching the summit of Agios Ioannis Hill. There are panoramic views from there. The 5.2 km route is listed as taking 1.5–2 hours and has a difficulty rating of 1/5. The hill is about 1,300 m from the edge of the village.

Another hiking trail connects Agios Germanos and Laimós. It is 5.1 km long, also takes 1.5–2 hours and has a difficulty rating of 1/5. The two hiking trails are almost the same length and share the same estimated time and rating. So, when choosing between them, the main consideration is what each one offers: the summit and panoramic views on the Laimós–Lofos Agianni trail, or the connection between Agios Germanos and Laimós. The trail to the lakeside forest and delta offers a different highlight, with opportunities for birdwatching.

Churches and history around Lemos

According to local tradition, Agios Ioannis was built in 1862. In the past, a festival involving the villagers was held outside the church. This is part of the village’s history and adds a local tradition to the landscape. The basilica is just outside Laimós, unlike the Church of Agia Paraskevi, which is in the village.

Agia Paraskevi dates from 1896. Together, the two churches offer different historical points of reference: Agios Ioannis is associated with a tradition dating back to 1862, while 1896 is given as the year Agia Paraskevi was built. Those interested in the churches can include their locations inside and outside the village, as well as the different dates, in their exploration.

Choose the right location for your trip

The sights and trails can be a practical starting point when looking for a holiday rental in Lemos. First, consider whether you want to focus on the trail to the lakeside forest and delta, the hike to the summit or the churches. The trails mentioned start in Laimós; the Basilica of Agios Ioannis is just outside the village. These differences can help you compare the location of a specific property with your planned outings.

If birdwatching is important to you, consider the trail to the Agios Germanos delta. For panoramic views, the hike to the summit of Agios Ioannis Hill is the best choice. If you would rather combine different interests, the trails and churches offer several different options to help you plan.
