Discover Belokomíti
Accommodation in Belokomíti
Belokomíti combines a forested setting with visible traces of village culture. Oak and fir forests, the Belokomíti Educational Forest, old houses with carved wooden balconies and ceilings, and summer cultural events each add a different note. The Gaki Cave and Kerentan Gorge also broaden the natural landscape of the surrounding area. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, it is worth thinking ahead about whether nature watching or village life will be the main focus of your stay.
Forest landscape, stream gorge and cave
Belokomíti is surrounded by oak and fir forests, and the area’s flora and fauna are particularly diverse. Opposite the village lies Kerentan Gorge, a wooded stream gorge with rich fir, beech and oak forests, as well as clear-flowing streams. The Gaki Cave, which is more than 500 m deep, is in the gorge towards Karitsa. Compared with the oak and fir forests around Belokomíti, the gorge adds further landscape features with its beech trees and streams; the cave makes a different impression with its depth.
The Belokomíti Educational Forest
The Belokomíti Educational Forest is part of the Agrafa public forest complex and covers 5,688 stremma. In addition to the predominant tree species, it is home to maples, mountain elms, whitebeams, horse chestnuts, wild cherries and lindens, among others; there are also numerous shrubs and a lush herb layer. Special trails are marked and are used to observe important features of the natural environment. Basic infrastructure is available for walks and hikes; the educational forest also has facilities for environmental education programmes. As you walk, the different tree species can prompt you to compare plants closely; the marked trails are designed to help visitors observe important features of nature.
Village architecture and culture
The village itself offers another focus for discovery: visitors can see old houses with carved wooden balconies and ceilings. These details give the village architecture a distinctive character alongside the surrounding landscape. In summer, the Belokomíti cultural association organises various cultural events. The village festival on 29 and 30 June commemorates the Holy Apostles. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for your travel year.
Nature or village life as the focus of your trip
When choosing a holiday apartment, you can first consider which side of Belokomíti interests you most. Would you like to focus on forests, marked nature trails and biodiversity, or are you more interested in the houses and cultural life? This can help you shape the character of your stay and tailor your search for accommodation in Belokomíti to your preferences. Nature and culture are different yet compatible focuses for a trip; you do not have to limit your plans to just one of these themes.
