At an altitude of 400 metres in the Municipality of Messene and 32 kilometres from Kalamata, Trikorfo is a village with several distinctive features: its former name and history, the table olive, and a stone fountain beneath plane trees. These aspects bring together local history, food culture and a clearly identifiable spot in the village—three different perspectives to help you decide what will shape your stay.

A village with a history of its own name

Trikorfo was formerly called Pentia (Πεντιά). The name is already recorded in the Venetian census of 1690 and remained official until 1927. The two dates mark different milestones: 1690 is the earliest record of the name, while 1927 marks the end of its official use. Together, the dates show both how far back the name can be traced and how long it remained in official use.

The table olive as a reason to come together

Every August, the Table Olive Festival takes place in Trikorfo’s village square. It brings together table olive producers and packers from Messinia and other parts of Greece and lasts two days, with celebrations continuing into the morning. If you would like to experience the festival, check the exact dates before arranging your travel around it. For families travelling in August, the timing is particularly important: two days of festivities continuing into the morning call for a different approach to planning than a single afternoon visit.

Trikorfo is said to account for 40 percent of the table olives from the Regional Unit of Messinia. This adds another perspective to the festival: one view is the gathering in the village square, and another is the village’s role in the regional table olive sector.

A stone fountain near the square

Just a few metres from the central square, a traditional stone fountain beneath plane trees offers visitors cool water. Unlike the annual festival, it is a permanent feature of the village and is not tied to an event date. Its proximity to the square gives you another specific point of reference: Trikorfo is not only about the festival, but also about a visible detail of the village itself.

Experience olive oil

Olive Ergo welcomes visitors to its olive mills in Manesi and Trikorfo by appointment. Olive Ergo Origins Tour is a separate offering that includes a guided tour of a modern olive mill and a presentation of olive oil production using modern machinery. If you would like to plan a visit or take the tour, check the specific arrangements and current availability directly with Olive Ergo. When making arrangements, it is worth clarifying what you are interested in: a visit to one of the two mills or the experience offered by the Origins Tour.

Plan your stay around your interests

There are different timeframes to consider when planning your trip: the festival takes place during its annual August window, while an olive mill visit is arranged by appointment. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Trikorfo, you can plan your travel dates around the festival or arrange a visit to the olive oil production facilities with the operator. The fountain provides a permanent village landmark beyond the events calendar.
