Plítra combines a shallow sandy beach with a central harbor and traces of the ancient city of Asopos. This brings together different interests during a stay by the sea: days by the water, archaeological remains along the coast and inland, and summer events give the place several points of interest. Activities beyond the beach are also part of Plítra’s appeal.

Beach and Harbor by the Water

Plítra’s central sandy beach is called Pachia Ammos. The shoreline is shallow and calm; several meters from the shore, the water remains very shallow. If the nature of the shoreline is an important factor when choosing a bathing spot, this is a specific point to consider. Artanis, Kokkinies, and Ammoulis are other beaches in Plítra; swimming and fishing are also among the activities there.

The central harbor offers a different perspective on the water: alongside residents’ boats and fishing boats, it can also accommodate pleasure craft. The beach and harbor thus offer two distinct ways to enjoy the water.

Traces of the Ancient City of Asopos

The ancient city of Asopos is located in present-day Plítra and is largely submerged. Remains of buildings and tomb structures can be seen in the sea and on the beach. Inland, within the area of the ancient city, there are funerary monuments and an ancient quarry with a relief of Heracles. A relief is a depiction that projects from a surface; here, Heracles is the subject. The remains along the coast and inland offer different spatial perspectives on the ancient city.

Summer Events and Activities

Every summer, the Papadianika–Plítra Cultural and Sports Association “I Archaia Kyparissia,” together with the Municipality of Monemvasia, organizes various events in Plítra, including beach parties. Event dates vary; check local announcements if you would like to include a particular celebration in your travel plans. The equestrian gathering, which has been held for several years, takes place in July. Horse lovers from all over Greece come together for a show featuring horses of various breeds. On August 9, 2026, Plítra hosted an evening performance by the Philharmonic of the Asopos Municipal Unit at 9 p.m.
