Charamida: Pebble Beach, Dunes and Diving
Accommodation in Charamida
Charamida combines a beach suitable for swimming with a diving centre offering programmes for beginners and experienced divers. The coastal landscape also has its own distinctive features: medium-sized pebbles cover the shore and seabed, alongside sand dunes and scattered tamarisks, phrygana and reeds. This gives you several options when planning your holiday – from swimming and diving to enjoying an unspoilt coastal landscape.
Pebble beach, dunes and scattered vegetation
Charamida’s beach is suitable for swimming. Medium-sized pebbles cover both the shore and the seabed, so the pebbles are a feature not only of the shoreline but also of the underwater terrain. Along with the sand dunes, they create a coastal landscape quite different from the image of a beach that is sandy all the way along. If you are planning a day at the beach, you’ll find a clear picture of what characterises it: swimming, as well as pebbles on the shore and beneath the water.
The unspoilt beach also features sand dunes and scattered tamarisks, phrygana and reeds. These plants add occasional touches to the coastal landscape; they do not form continuous vegetation. Alongside the pebbles, they are among the other visible features that define Charamida’s beach. If you choose a holiday destination partly for its landscape, the pebbles, dunes and scattered vegetation may influence your decision – in addition to which activities you want to make the focus of your stay.
Swimming and diving as different priorities
The Lesvos Scuba Oceanic Centre offers courses and experience programmes for beginners and experienced divers. Its offerings cater to different levels of experience. Courses and experience programmes are two ways to include diving in your travel plans; each offers a different focus from a stay centred mainly on swimming at the beach. When choosing a destination, you can consider whether you associate Charamida primarily with the beach or also want to take diving into account.
The diving centre was initially based in Petra from 2002 and later relocated to Charamida. If you are planning a visit, please check in advance whether the centre is currently operating. This lets you take diving into account in your plans and arrange your visit to the centre according to its current operating status.
A guide to choosing a destination
Charamida Beach is 14 km from Mytilini. This gives you a specific point of reference when considering Charamida as a possible holiday destination. Along with the beach and diving options, you can factor in the distance when deciding where to stay: you can consider both the kind of coastal experience you are looking for and Charamida’s location in relation to Mytilini.
When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to first decide what matters most for your trip. Is swimming at the pebble beach the deciding factor, are you particularly interested in diving, or is it the combination of pebbles, dunes and scattered vegetation that appeals to you most? These priorities offer a concrete basis for comparing Charamida with your holiday plans and deciding whether this coastal village could be a suitable base for your trip.
