Paralia Agias Fotinis is a coastal destination whose character is reflected in its beach and sweeping views across the sea. Agia Fotia Beach—also known as Agia Foteini—is made up of white pebbles, and its water is considered crystal clear. From Agia Foteini, the view stretches far across the sea and the coast of Asia Minor. The village itself is laid out amphitheatrically and is considered picturesque.

Beach, Village Character, and Activities

Descriptions highlight different aspects: Agia Fotia is considered a quieter, more relaxing beach, but also a youthful and lively one. Agia Foteini is also described as a family beach. Calm and lively qualities therefore coexist in the character of the place, rather than defining the beach by just one mood.

The beach has parasols and sun loungers; these amenities may change, so it is advisable to check their availability before your visit. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag. Agia Fotia is classified as inaccessible to people with special needs. If accessibility is important for your trip, check the current conditions in advance.

Snorkelling is possible at the beach and offers an active complement to a relaxing stay by the water. The sweeping views of the sea and coast offer a different focus: both the scenery and time spent at the beach are part of the place’s character.

Getting There and Choosing Your Holiday Destination

Agia Fotia can be reached by car or taxi from Chios Port and Chios Airport. The drive from the port takes 21 minutes and covers 11.5 kilometres; from the airport, it takes 16 minutes and covers 8.6 kilometres. Travel times may vary depending on traffic and route. If you coordinate your holiday apartment search with your arrival plans, you can compare the two starting points using these different journey times and distances.

Cultural Highlights on Chios

Chios offers other cultural and historical highlights that provide a different focus from the coastal destination. Nea Moni Monastery was built between 1042 and 1056 and is considered a masterpiece of Byzantine art. Its mosaics are part of one of three collections from the Middle Byzantine period preserved in Greece.

In Pyrgi, the permanent exhibition at the Chios Mastic Museum presents traditional knowledge about mastic cultivation. The outdoor exhibition introduces visitors to the mastic plant and its natural habitat. The museum opened to the public in 2016.

Mesta is a medieval village preserved as a monument. Its closely packed houses give the village a castle-like layout and form a protective outer wall. In Pyrgi, the “Xysta” also catch the eye: black-and-white geometric decorations on house façades. The village is also home to the well-preserved Church of Agioi Apostoloi, a Byzantine monument dating from the 14th century.
