Áno Garoúna lies amphitheatrically on the western slopes of Mount Agioi Deka and is surrounded by dense olive groves. From here, you can see Agios Gordios beach and the larger settlement of Kato Garoúna opposite. This combination of a hillside setting, olive groves and two clearly identified viewpoints makes the village particularly interesting for travellers who want to experience Corfu not only through its coastal scenery but also through its mountainous landscape. When choosing a holiday apartment, hiking trails and viewpoints can therefore help you decide what you would like to focus on during your stay.

Hiking between forest, monastery and radar station

The Áno Garoúna–Radar route can be combined with Trail 1 to form a circular route starting in Áno Garoúna. An alternative hiking route starts at the entrance to Áno Garoúna. The trail passes through vegetation and woodland as it heads towards the hilltop. This allows you to distinguish the described circular-route option from the alternative that starts at the village entrance; the wooded climb also shapes the character of the hike. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

The walk to the hilltop and the Pantokrator Monastery is listed as taking around 45 minutes. The next section, from the monastery to the radar station along a cement road, takes 10 minutes. These times refer to separate sections: around 45 minutes to the summit, followed by 10 minutes from the monastery to the radar station. They can help you plan your day, but they are not the total walking time for the circular route. The Áno Garoúna–Radar route leads to a radar station with views across the whole island.

A hiking trail leads from Áno Garoúna to Kato Garoúna. The larger settlement opposite is also visible from the village. Kato Garoúna is therefore both a viewpoint destination and the endpoint of a trail. When planning, you can distinguish between the two hiking options by their destinations: the circular route with views across the island, or the trail to the settlement opposite.
