The beach gives Kastrosykia a distinct seaside character: its amphitheatre-like shape opens up views of the coastal area of the Preveza regional unit and the sunset. Choosing a holiday destination here is about more than the view; the water, seabed and activities also shape your stay. The wider destination of Preveza adds its own archaeological, urban history and culinary themes.

Beach Shape, Water and Views

Kastrosykia’s beach has fine sand, and the seabed is sandy too. The water is shallow and gradually gets deeper. These are practical criteria when comparing coastal destinations: alongside the shape of the beach and the views, you can also take the seabed and the transition from shallow to deeper water into account when making your choice.

The amphitheatre-like shape offers distinctive views of the coastal area of the Preveza regional unit and the sunset. This gives the beach two different aspects: a view across the coast and a view at the end of the day. If you want to consider both the landscape and the characteristics of the sea when choosing a holiday destination, Kastrosykia offers tangible points to consider.

Activities by the Sea

The shallow water and frequent light breeze at the beach are suitable for activities on the sea with a board or a small sailboat. There is also a kitesurfing facility at the spot known as “Μπούκα”. These details serve different purposes: the water and breeze describe conditions for activities on the sea, while the facility is specifically associated with kitesurfing. If you plan to use it, check in advance whether the facility will be available during your visit.

The beach is accessible by car. For connections on the urban KTEL network, check the current timetable. Before looking for a holiday apartment, you can also decide what you want to focus on: Kastrosykia as a beach destination, or the cultural and historical themes of the wider destination of Preveza as well.

Culture and Discoveries in the Wider Destination of Preveza

At the archaeological site of Nikopolis, a main route and six secondary routes link nine monumental areas. The Archaeological Museum of Nikopolis presents the city’s history of more than a thousand years through various aspects of its residents’ private and public lives. The site and museum offer different emphases: monumental areas on the one hand, and the history of the city and its residents on the other.

The historic centre of Preveza also offers specific points of interest for those interested in cultural history. The Venetian Clock Tower, dating from 1752, stands there. The Church of Agios Athanasios is one of the oldest churches in Preveza; it was built during Venetian rule in the early 18th century and is known for rare frescoes dating from 1780. Pantokratoras Fortress was built in the early 19th century by Ali Pasha to the plans of the French engineer Yadocourt. Its location served to ensure complete control of shipping at the entrance to the Amvrakikos Gulf.

A different perspective is offered by Preveza’s second coastal cycling route: it is about 10 kilometres long, has a low difficulty level and connects the city beach, Kiani Akti, Pantokratoras, the fishing harbour, Alonaki and the settlement of Drosia. As road conditions can change, it is a good idea to check them before setting out. Local products from Preveza include shrimp from the Amvrakikos Gulf and the famous bottarga from the gulf.
