Two beaches, festival traditions and surprising cultural and historical details offer different ways to experience Nea Kallikratia during a holiday. You can combine beach days with a summer festival, a landmark in the central square or a glimpse into the history of the surrounding area. This makes it easy to shape your stay around different interests.

Two beaches to help you find your way

Nea Kallikratia has two beaches: one in front of the town and another at its edge, called “Sahara.” Both are accessible for people with limited mobility and have a lifeguard. Their different locations make it easy to distinguish between the two beach areas. If these facilities are important when planning your day, check the current situation before your visit, as services may change.

Summer festival traditions

A festival with a fair is held every August at the Byzantine chapel of Saint Tryphon. Dates and the current programme may vary; if you are planning your trip around the festival, check the dates in advance. The summer festivals in Nea Kallikratia also have a cultural purpose: they provide opportunities for exchange between local associations and associations from other countries.

The Festival of the Square is part of the Festival of the Sea. It is organised by the Municipality of Nea Propontida together with the Organization of Culture and Sports (OCS). The festival traditions therefore offer different points of interest: the fair at the chapel and a festival that is part of the Festival of the Sea. It is worth checking the current event dates when planning your trip.

A tombstone discovery and a motif in the square

An ancient gabled tombstone was discovered during excavations in Nea Kallikratia. It depicts a young girl holding a dove in her left hand.

Another cultural and historical point of interest is a replica of “Η Κόρη της Καλλικράτειας” (The Maiden of Kallikratia), which stands in the central square of Nea Kallikratia. Together, the tombstone discovery and the replica offer two different perspectives: one leads to an ancient depiction, the other to a named motif in the townscape.

Market day and the history of winemaking

The farmers’ market in Nea Kallikratia takes place on Tuesdays. The day of the week can serve as a practical planning reference if visiting a market is part of your stay. Market hours may change, so confirm the current market day locally.

The surrounding area also has a connection to winemaking. In 2001, Thodoros Koutsoubakis planted his first vineyard in the Nea Kallikratia area, founding the family winery Koutsoubakis Estate.

Choose a holiday rental to suit your pace

If beach time is your priority, the two named beach locations offer clear points of reference. If you are interested in festival traditions, the August festival at the chapel and the summer events may help determine when to travel. The Tuesday market provides another practical point of reference for planning your week.
