Moffat Town Hall also tells of the town’s former use as a spa and meeting place. The building was constructed in 1827 as Moffat Baths Hall, with reading rooms, an assembly hall and bathing suites. At the beginning of the 20th century, concerts, dance band performances and public meetings were held there; film screenings were also held there at times. Moffat Well was discovered by Rachel Whiteford in the 17th century and contributed to Moffat’s renown and prosperity as a spa town.

It is considered Scotland’s first wood-fired distillery in over 200 years and offers an approximately 75-minute tour with a tasting of three of its own products. The distillery can be reached by car, bicycle or on foot. Regular buses run to Moffat town centre; from there, the distillery is about a 25- to 30-minute walk away. Nearby, around 10 miles east of Moffat, Grey Mare’s Tail offers a 60-metre-high waterfall and walking trails.
