The museum includes a nail forge, a corkscrew workshop and a file-cutting workshop. The permanent exhibition “Ons Schdaaimicher” opened in January 2022 and offers insights into the way of life, language development and club life of the people of Steinbach-Hallenberg. Blacksmithing demonstrations take place from April to October on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Check the dates before your visit.
Hallenburg Castle also offers a glimpse into the history of Steinbach-Hallenberg: it was built around 1212 on the remains of earlier structures. A walk up to the castle offers views of the town and the surrounding mountains. You may need to collect the key from the Tourist Information Office to access the tower. It is centrally located in the town centre, directly opposite the Metalworking Museum.
More Nature and Cultural Experiences in the Destination
The Unterlautenberg wildlife enclosure is in the district of Unterschönau. Red deer, fallow deer, mouflons and goats can be seen there, and a circular trail about three kilometres long runs alongside the enclosure. Another option is Knüllfeld, described as a hiking plateau near Steinbach-Hallenberg. During the summer holidays, horse-drawn carriage rides there and back to the town centre are regularly offered in cooperation with the Falk Nattermann transport company. For longer stays, free parking is available on Bismarckstraße or on Hennebergstraße, behind the town church.
