Waffenrod-Hinterrod lies at an elevation of about 700 metres on a high plateau in the Thuringian Slate Mountains, on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest Nature Park. The starting point of the Thuringian Panorama Road is also in the twin village. The Thuringian Panorama Road begins in the village; ski hiking trails and cross-country ski trails can be found nearby.

Summer Toboggan Run and Adventure Playground

Also in Eisfeld is the school building built in 1575 and later extended, which is considered the second-oldest school building in Thuringia. Above the town hall’s round entrance portal is a sandstone coat-of-arms relief dating from 1557.

The traditional programme of the Eisfeld Cow-Tail Festival also provides a distinctive cultural focus. It includes the early-morning wake-up call, a historic guard procession with a fire brigade exercise, the commander’s ride and the festival procession. These elements have largely been preserved.
