The Ellerau Local History Museum presents the character of rural life around 1900. Rooms such as a bedroom and a kitchen have been reconstructed as they looked on rural farms; the museum also contains a classroom with historical exhibits. Culture
The Karl Rautenberg Museum displays tools from the workshops of shoemakers, tailors, blacksmiths and carpenters, as well as from the masonry and butchery trades. Old class photographs, exercise books and schoolbooks illustrate the changes in the education system. A special exhibition is dedicated to the former company Arthur A. Erlhoff. The Karl Rautenberg Museum in Ellerau also allows visitors to view the oldest record book, dating from the beginning of the 18th century.
Nature and Activities
The approximately six-hectare Bürgerpark forms Ellerau's central green area. It combines recreational spaces, habitats for plants and animals, paths, and alternating quiet and active zones along the Krumbek. The Bürgerpark also has a fitness trail with three equipment combinations.
Ellerau is described as being situated peacefully amid rural nature, while also lying approximately 20 kilometres from Hamburg.
Leisure
Ellerau outdoor swimming pool has a paddling pool for small children, changing facilities with hot-water showers, and free parking spaces in front of the swimming pool grounds. The outdoor pool uses energy-saving water heating powered by waste heat from a biogas plant.
Children's swimming courses are offered by VHS Ellerau and DLRG Ellerau e. V. VHS Ellerau also offers back fitness with aqua aerobics and aqua power jogging at the outdoor pool. The outdoor pool staff can conduct swimming badge tests, including lifesaving badges, and assess lifesaving competence on request. A kiosk serves hot and cold drinks as well as food.
Geographical Location
Ellerau is located on the AKN railway line between Kaltenkirchen and Eidelstedt. There is also a public transport stop in the town.
