Nature

Northeast of Gelting lies the 773-hectare Geltinger Birk nature reserve. It combines dunes, marshland, heathland, moorland, and light woodland. Visitors can explore the landscape on walking paths and may see Highland cattle and Konik wild horses grazing on natural pastureland. The approximately 12 km circular trail through the Geltinger Birk can be accessed from the Geltinger Noor and from Mühle Charlotte or the Falshöft Lighthouse.

Mühle Charlotte stands at the entrance to the Geltinger Noor leading into the Geltinger Birk. It is privately owned and has been converted into a holiday home. It was built in 1826 to drain the Noor and grind grain.

Trails

The Krebs Route is an approximately 6 km hiking trail that leads from Gelting via Lehbek, Gut Ohrfeld, and Wackerballig back to Gelting. The Biene Route is approximately 8 km long and runs from Gelting via Sillekjer, Rabenholz, and Holmkjer Forest back to Gelting. The Schwan Route is an approximately 6 km hiking trail from Wackerballig via Düstnishy and Nordschauwald back to Wackerballig.

Wackerballig Campsite is located directly on the beach of Gelting Bay. It offers 30 tourist pitches for caravans and tents.

Culture

St. Catherine's Church is a historic church in Gelting, believed to have originated shortly after 1300. A major renovation in 1793 enlarged the choir; the organ was completely restored in 2007. St. Catherine's Church in Gelting also contains a former high altar scene dating from 1520–30, carved by a master from the circle of the Lübeck sculptor Claus Berg.

Gut Gelting, also known as Gelting Castle, is an estate approximately 800 years old and one of the oldest estates in Angeln. The manor house of Gelting Castle is privately owned and not open to visitors.

The Gelting Shanty Choir preserves original shanties associated with 19th-century seafaring. In Gelting, a hot Angler Muck is considered a typical winter drink.
