Sophienhamm: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Hartshoper Moor is a nature conservation area connected to Sophienhamm and has NATURA 2000 protection status. The restored moorland landscape is connected to Sophienhamm.

Nature

The Hartshoper Moor comprises raised bog, wet heaths, moorland forests, transitional bogs and wet grassland. The restored landscape is home to rare moorland plants such as bog rosemary, cotton grass and peat mosses. Rare animals such as snipes, red-backed shrikes, dragonflies and moor frogs can also be found there. A striking peculiarity can be seen in the male moor frogs: between the end of March and the end of April, they turn blue for a few days.

Paths

Hiking trails run through the Hartshoper Moor, and cycling is also possible on them. A circular hiking route approximately six kilometres long runs through the area and offers optional detours along rewetting areas. Guided hikes through the Hartshoper Moor are also available.

The Stiftungsland Hohner See nature area can be reached directly to the north via a hiking trail. The Stiftungsland Dellstedter Birkwildmoor nature area lies south of the Hartshoper Moor. There are picnic areas at the Hartshoper Moor viewpoints; benches and tables are available at some locations.

Some households supplemented their income by selling peat.
