Stakendorf: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Stakendorf is located on the eastern edge of the Probstei region on the Baltic Sea coast. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Stakendorf can then continue their search for accommodation. Stakendorf has largely preserved its rural village structure: restored historic buildings, numerous ponds and an extensive tree population characterize the townscape.
Coast and Nature
The town includes a free natural bathing beach that directly adjoins Schönberg Beach. The nearby Schmoel Beach Lake Landscape nature reserve provides a habitat for many characteristic bird species and can be reached by bicycle from Stakendorf.
Paths
Kilometres of paved and well-signposted cycling and hiking trails lead through the Probstei region across fields and meadows lined with hedgerows, through villages and past historic monuments, beaches and inland lakes. Hiking trails run along hedgerows, through salt meadows and nature reserves to inland lakes. The hiking paths have barely noticeable differences in elevation and are described as suitable for practically everyone.
Nature and Local History
A hiking route reaches the Schmoel nature reserve after approximately two kilometres and highlights the contrast between the historic natural coast and modern coastal protection. Nearby beach lakes with extensive reed beds provide resting and nesting places for many bird species. Near Schmoel, beach-stone ridges piled up by wave action support salt-tolerant plants such as sea kale, sea rocket and glasswort.
A hiking route through Stakendorf passes impressive farmsteads and a village pond with a memorial to those killed in the world wars. Stakendorf is also associated with a local historical figure, Peter Plett: from 1808 until his early retirement in 1820, he served as the village schoolteacher in Stakendorf. Even before Edward Jenner, Peter Plett discovered the smallpox vaccination and administered it.
Local
An organic farm shop in Stakendorf offers meat, sausages, potatoes, vegetables, fruit, eggs and organic food, as well as bread rolls from the village bakery. From May to September, a garden café serves waffles, including a vegan version.
