Borgsum on Föhr: About 1 kilometre north of the village stands Borgsumburg, also known as Lembecksburg, on a geest hill surrounded by marshland.

History

Lembecksburg is a ring wall dating from the 9th or 10th century and an archaeological monument. It is almost 8 metres high and has an inner diameter of just under 100 metres. Excavations inside the ring wall uncovered the remains of several well-preserved houses with sod walls dating from the 8th to the 11th century. The grounds of Lembecksburg can be used for picnics.

Getting Around

A natural beach adjoins Borgsum to the south. At the same time, the village is centrally located in Föhr’s cycling network. Borgsum has several restaurants and cafés as well as farm shops.

Leisure

The Föhr Corn Maze in Borgsum has a route approximately 3.5 kilometres long through thousands of corn plants. Adventure Golf in Borgsum has 18 holes with a total length of 350 metres. A viewing point at the Adventure Golf facility offers views of Lembecksburg and the corn maze. The individual Adventure Golf holes feature brief descriptions of local history.

The Bi Jaine Bowling Centre in Borgsum has two bowling lanes. The grounds of Adventure Golf & Corn Maze feature swings, a trampoline, table tennis, table football, slides and a large sandy area. Cakes and gateaux from the Borgsum country bakery are also served there.

Borgsum Mill is a privately owned mill dating from 1992, visible from a distance and described as worth seeing during a sightseeing stop.
