Wrixum: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Wrixum is a historically developed village with an old centre, Frisian houses and distinctive buildings. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Wrixum can then continue searching for accommodation.

Culture

Wrixum’s old village centre was established in the 15th century as a linear village along the marshland. Traditional Frisian houses retain thatched roofs and characteristic gables above the entrance doors. In the northern part of the village, the settlement structure that developed along the geest-marsh boundary has been preserved. Well-preserved historic buildings can also be found there.

St. Nicolai Church dates back to around 1240. It stands directly beside Wrixum Mill on the border with Boldixum, a district of Wyk. Wrixum Mill is a windmill of the “Großer Erdholländer” type. It dates from 1851 and was in operation until 1960. It is one of five windmills on Föhr.

Nature

The Apple Garden is a park beside Wrixum Mill; it has paths and a fountain. Young trees of old fruit varieties grow in the Apple Garden, while roses bloom from spring until late autumn. Wrixum’s colourful gardens offer visitors places to relax.

Paths and Play

The Grüffelo Trail runs through Wrixum Forest as a forest walk approximately 1 km long. It features puzzles about the Gruffalo and his friends and introduces visitors playfully to the local flora and fauna. The trail is designed for children aged 3 to 6. The puzzle cards are available at the starting point at the end of Lindenweg.

Wrixum also has a large sports and play area with swings, climbing equipment and a football pitch. The local footpath “Bop” runs through Wrixum and was created for exploring the village.

Surroundings

The centre of Wyk is 2 km from Wrixum; the beach is also 2 km from Wrixum. Wyk is easily accessible on foot from Wrixum. Four nearby bus stops connect Wrixum with Wyk within a few minutes.
