History
Kuden’s historic landscape is linked to peat extraction and the Büttler Canal. It was built in 1766 from Kudensee to the Elbe for drainage and the transport of peat; since 1895, the canal has ended at the Kiel Canal.
Getting Around
The Kuden viewing platform is located within a nature reserve along hiking trail 2, “Around Kudensee”. The trail follows part of the Kiel Canal, takes hikers close to large ships, and passes through Kuden before reaching Kudensee. The Kuden viewing platform is freely accessible at all times.
Practical Information
In Kuden, the municipality provides a trekking site on the grounds of a former waterworks. The site has no sanitary facilities; barbecuing is not permitted there.
Bus 2572 runs between Averlak and St. Michaelisdonn via Eddelak and serves the area along the route. Parking for the route is available in Averlak next to the road.
