Dellstedt: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Dellstedt Birkwild Moor consists of two parts: the Nordermoor and the Ostermoor. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Dellstedt can continue searching for accommodation afterwards.

Nature

A circular hiking trail runs through the Nordermoor directly to a viewing tower. From there, visitors can look out over the cotton-grass meadows; an orchid meadow is a short distance from the viewing tower.

Along the moor trail, there are opportunities to see sundew and the rare yellow bog asphodel, also known as bogbreak. Whinchat, reed buntings, meadow pipits and cranes have been sighted in the Dellstedt Birkwild Moor; bluethroats may also be seen there.

In the wider Eider-Treene-Sorge region, the lowlands contain raised and lowland bogs, extensive reed beds, natural shallow lakes and species-rich wet meadows. Animal and plant species adapted to wetlands continue to occur there. The Birkwild Moor in Dellstedt received Schleswig-Holstein’s “Nature Reserve of the Year 2009” award.

History

Moorgut Dellstedt is a HISTOUR cultural heritage site documenting peat and bog iron ore extraction, including a preserved half-timbered manager’s house dating from 1863 and the history of former peat production.

Cycling

The Fockbek–Erfde stage passes through Wrohm and Dellstedt, goes past the Dellstedt Birkwild Moor and then reaches the Eider again.

The Eider-Treene-Sorge Cycle Route runs through Dellstedt. It connects Dellstedt with Pahlen, Lunden, Friedrichstadt, Bergenhusen and Hohn, passing through a landscape of rivers, meadows, forests, bogs and canals.

In the wider Eider region, well-marked cycle paths and a designated network of hiking trails are mentioned for exploring the area. Canoe trips allow visitors to observe the landscape and wildlife from the water.
