Culture and History

The Romanesque double chapel of St. Crucis is the distinctive, preserved above-ground remnant of the castle of the Margrave of Landsberg from the 12th century. The double chapel is listed as open for visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays from May to October; public guided tours are listed for Sundays during the same season. Guided visits describe the chapel on Kapellenberg as offering views over the surrounding countryside.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is the only visible above-ground evidence of a significant High and Late Medieval castle. Landsberg’s town church of St. Nicolai dates from around 1200. Landsberg is also a stop on Saxony-Anhalt’s Romanesque Road. On this road’s Saale-Unstrut route, the Landsberg double chapel is one of more than 20 Romanesque buildings.

The Luther Trail passes through Landsberg and follows a route from Brehna via Niemberg and Brachstedt to Petersberg. Spitzberg, Pfarrberg and Gützer Berg are located nearby. The porphyry hills between Landsberg, Gütz and Hohenthurm are presented as places for walks in nature and the discovery of rare plants.

Swimming

Landsberg Felsenbad is located at the foot of Kapellenberg. It has a diving facility with a 5-metre tower and 50-metre swimming lanes. It also includes a non-swimmer pool with a slide and a baby paddling pool.
