The town lists an extensive range of sights, including the Brücktor Tower, St. Jakobi Church, founded in 1418, the Mansfeld Museum located in the late-Baroque Humboldt Palace, the Mansfeld Mining Railway, the Sugarloaf, and Walbeck Wildlife Park. The museum presents the history of the town and the region’s copper mining, smelting, metalworking, and the history of the Humboldt family. Its most important exhibit is a true-to-original reconstruction of Germany’s first Watt steam engine; the historical original was put into operation in Hettstedt in 1785. The park-like grounds allow visitors to take walks through the history of mining and technology.
Sections of the medieval town wall, built between 1430 and 1439, have been preserved. It included three town gates and had a total length of approximately 1,100 metres. The town also offers guided tours led by a local historian and tour guide.
