Flechtingen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Flechtingen Water Castle was built as a fortified castle with a keep, shield walls and rubble-stone defensive walls, and was first mentioned around 1307.

History

At the beginning of the 15th century, the fortress was rebuilt and subsequently referred to as a palace. The core of the castle is arranged around a triangular inner courtyard.

Landscape

The castle is surrounded by an artificially dammed Schlosssee lake. Flechtingen Schlosssee covers almost 13 hectares. Flechtingen Water Castle stands on a rocky island in the lake and is connected to the mainland by two dams.

Flechtingen Park includes meadows with spring flowers such as winter aconites, squills, anemones and crocuses. Rare birds and other species live in the local forests, meadows, streams and old quarries, including red kites, black storks, woodpeckers and partridges.

Culture

The village church in Flechtingen contains the tombs of the Schenck family and is open to visitors in the afternoon. There is also a small gallery, a model railway exhibition and a historic water mill with a large waterwheel in the vicarage.

Flechtingen Palace Mill houses exhibitions on geology and history, agricultural miniatures, milling technology and a miller's room. It also contains the Museum of the Bakers' Guild of Haldensleben.

Local visitor activities include boat rental, carriage rides and bowling. In the health sector, the Kneipp Centre in Flechtingen offers water treading, Kneipp showers, and arm and foot baths.

Cycling

Flechtingen is listed on the Aller-Elbe Cycle Route between Seggerde and Altenhausen.
