The International Road of Peace is a distinctive feature of St. Wendel: The 17-kilometre sculpture route comprises around 40 works by international artists, presented in the natural landscape.

Nature and active routes

St. Wendel lies within the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park and is surrounded by diverse landscapes. St. Wendel has two premium hiking trails certified by the German Hiking Institute. For planning purposes, you can consider the number of trails and their certification separately from the length of the sculpture route.

The cycling network comprises 200 kilometres and consists of developed and signposted routes. Family rides, recreational cycling, multi-day tours and more demanding tours represent different types and scopes of activity.

The 17 kilometres of the sculpture route and the 200 kilometres of the cycling network can be considered, together with the certification of the two premium hiking trails and the various route types, as points of comparison for planning your own trip. You can distinguish between the art route, hiking and cycling without combining the three areas into a single activity.

Old town and culture

The historic old town and the Gothic Wendelinus Basilica are prominent attractions in St. Wendel. The tomb of Saint Wendelinus is located in the basilica.

The Mia-Münster-Haus houses a museum and the town and district library. For cultural classification, you can distinguish between a sacred building, historic urban space, museum and library.

The cultural points of interest differ in nature: Historic urban space, sacred building, museum and library each set their own accents for a stay that is not limited to a single cultural theme.

These cultural points of interest can be viewed in terms of architecture, religious history and educational offerings. This places various cultural themes side by side without requiring you to limit your planning to just one attraction.

Connections

Wendel has a direct rail connection on the Saarbrücken–Frankfurt am Main route via Bingen and Mainz. The central bus station is next to the railway station, and regional buses serve the surrounding villages and municipalities.

For planning your journey, you can consider the direct rail connection, the location of the bus and railway stations, and the regional bus service as separate reference points.

When comparing a holiday apartment in St. Wendel, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be considered separately on the respective offer page.

Geographical setting

The surrounding area of St. Wendel includes the Ottweiler School Museum, the Schaumberg Tower, the Ottweiler Hesse House and the Ottweiler Fornaro Courtyard. Weißelberg, Leißberg, Trautzberg and Harzhöhe are also located in this surrounding area.

The local references help you consider St. Wendel and the surrounding area separately. For your own planning, you can organise the cultural destinations and landscape names according to this geographical context.
