Wittgert lies at the foot of the Westerwald on a gentle slope along the Saynbach, about 4 km from the pottery town of Ransbach-Baumbach. The landscape, hiking trails and historic details of the village are all closely connected here.
Nature
The RB5 – Wirscheid-Rembser Hof is an 8.3-kilometre, easy circular trail. It leads through high forest via Rembser Hof to Wirscheid. From the heights near Wirscheid, there is a broad view across the Westerwald.
The RB6 is a circular trail around Wittgert and leads uphill to the Breitenau barbecue shelter. Its official starting point is at the Haiderbach School Centre in Wittgert, where several parking spaces are available. The RB5 can also be accessed from the Sieben Wege car park on the K127 between Wittgert and Ransbach-Baumbach.
Wittgert has a public barbecue area, the Schinderhanneshütte shelter, a basketball court, a ball sports court and a multi-purpose sports hall.
Culture
On Wittgert's Brunnenstraße stands a cast-iron running fountain dating from the second half of the 19th century. Northeast of Wittgert, on the road to Oberhaid, there is a wayside cross that probably dates from the second half of the 19th century.
The half-timbered house at Brunnenstraße 8, partly built of solid masonry, bears the date 1813. Its infill panels and masonry feature sgraffiti from 1921.
